A Conversation with Civil Rights Icon John Lewis [PHOTOS]
Georgia Congressman and historic civil rights leader John Lewis was recently the honored guest at an event held at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Center (THEARC) in Southeast, DC, entitled, "A Conversation with Civil Rights Icon the Honorable John Lewis." During the 90-minute conversation with Washington Informer Pulisher Denise Rolark Barnes, Lewis discussed topics such as religion, his upbringing on a farm in Alabama, his love life, as well as his time with noted civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The evening concluded with a Q/A session with local journalism students from the Richard Wright Public Charter school in Northeast DC, as well as Lewis being honored with the first Washington Informer Humanitarian Award. After the event Lewis signed copies of his book "Walking against the Wind" for audience members who were in attendance.
