QOTD: What are your thoughts on these extremely offensive ’12 Years A Slave’ headlines?

History was made at the 2014 Academy Awards as Steve McQueen’s groundbreaking film “12 Years A Slave” became the first movie from a Black director to win Best picture, screenwriter John Ridley became the second Black man to win an Oscar for “Best Adapted Screenplay” and Lupita Nyong’o became the first Black African to win an Oscar for her role as Patsey.  Unfortunately, these triumphant accomplishments were highlighted by news and entertainment sites with irresponsible and highly offensive headlines.

Here are the news headlines that many people have been giving the side-eye.

To add insult to injury, comedian Chelsea Handler also tweeted some highly offensive jokes while guest tweeting  for the Huffington Post during the Oscars. After much backlash, Chelsea spoke out about being called a racist on a Good Morning America interview- her excuse?  “I’m not a racist. I date a lot of black people. So that would be a difficult thing to explain to them.”
